Luminary's analyst team was spending 60–70 % of each engagement on research and synthesis, combing through SEC filings, earnings transcripts, news archives, and market data to produce background reports. The work was repetitive and time-consuming, leaving less time for the high-value interpretation and recommendation work that clients actually paid for.
How we solved it.
We built a multi-step LLM agent using a Claude-based architecture with tool use: web search, SEC EDGAR retrieval, PDF extraction, and a structured output schema that maps to Luminary's existing report template. The agent runs autonomously, flags low-confidence passages for human review, and produces a draft report with inline citations. Analysts review and annotate rather than write from scratch.
Results that matter.
Report preparation time dropped from an average of 3 days to 3 hours and 45 minutes. Analyst capacity effectively doubled without additional headcount. The citation system, which links every claim to a source document, was specifically praised by clients as a quality improvement over previous reports. Luminary has since deployed the agent across all active client engagements.
